Great Pond Books for Kids
Our family has always gravitated to the water. Most of our favorite memories involve water to some degree: camping at the lake, wading in the river, splashing at the beach.
When we moved to Iowa, I really had no idea how much water surrounds our little town. Hop in the car, and within 30 minutes, you can be at one of two lakes. We also have a river close by and several ponds that we visit on a regular basis.
Not too long ago, we were walking on one of our favorite nature trails, and I noticed that the recent snow melt and rain had created a new little pop-up pond in the weeds. As I listened to the frogs and watched the birds come and go, I realized that a pond unit study could be a lot of fun for our family.
And whenever I create a new unit study, I always start with a big stack of library books.

You could also include books for sub-themes, such as the life cycle of a frog or Claude Monet’s lily pond in France! Don’t ever be afraid to follow rabbit trails — you never know where you could end up.
