Homeschooling 101

Homeschooling 101

Everything you need to know at the beginning of your homeschooling journey!

When I was an elementary education major in college, I never imagined I’d be a homeschooling mom. I loved my years in the classroom, but I didn’t love the way our education system tried to homogenize all of my students.

Our kids are unique and their education should be, too.

When we decided to start our learning at home journey with our own two children, I thought it would be an easy transition. However, I had no idea how different homeschooling would be from teaching a class of students.

Are you considering homeschooling for your family?

There’s so much information about home education available on the Internet, it can be overwhelming. For many of us, the overload can lead to “analysis paralysis.” A mentor could have helped me work through questions like:

  • How do we start?
  • What curriculum should we use?

I had no idea how many people would have an opinion about my child’s education. The loneliness could be isolating at times — how I longed for a friend who could listen without judging.

  • What about socialization?
  • How would my kids stay current with their peers?

The hardest part (for me) was the eventual realization that there was no one “right” way to homeschool my kids. For those of us that grew up as “Type A” overachievers, a little encouragement on the days we’re second-guessing ourselves could go a long way.

  • Am I doing a good job?
  • Are my kids learning what they’re supposed to?

GOOD NEWS!

Getting started doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Take a deep breath and imagine having consistent support and encouragement from an experienced homeschool mom, so you can have peace of mind as you begin your homeschooling journey.

“Melissa was my my inspiration for pursuing homeschooling after I attended her “Introduction to Tot School Class.” I can’t thank her enough for opening that door for me. I don’t think I would have ever been brave enough to tackle this without her!”
