Mr. Rogers was ahead of his time. 😍 Mr. Rogers was ahead of his time. 😍
We're halfway through our last break week of the s We're halfway through our last break week of the school year, so I decided to clean out my TBR stack. I also have a bunch of advanced reader copies (ARCs) on my Kindle -- so I better get reading!

(I've been on a rom com kick lately, so all the children's books have been languishing on the pile. Some good stuff waiting for me, though!)
Homeschooling is about more than checking off a li Homeschooling is about more than checking off a list of topics covered and getting through all the material by the end of the year.

When my oldest was in Kindergarten, we really struggled to get through each day’s lessons without one or both of us getting upset. At that point, I hadn’t yet realized that children develop asynchronously -- and so I thought that Addie should be making equal progress in all of her subjects.

I assumed that her daily struggle was stubbornness (or defiance), and I felt like I was failing her as a parent AND a teacher.

Eventually, we came to a breaking point, and a veteran homeschooling mom helped me see that I was pushing my 5-year-old MUCH too hard. I realized that it didn’t matter if we made it to the end of the handwriting book if my daughter hated school work.

So here’s a tip for you: SLOW DOWN. Or speed up! You know, whatever your kiddo needs. ❤ It will all work out.
Spring is beautiful. Happy Friday! Spring is beautiful. Happy Friday!

The funny thing is, it works.

We've been watching TV with the captions on for YEARS, and I'm quite certain it played a big role in both our kids learning how to read before they turned 5.
Plastic eggs are perfect for learning games! Last Plastic eggs are perfect for learning games!

Last year, we learned our states and capitals this way...but you could honestly match anything:
✳️ Numerals and number words
✳️ Math facts
✳️ Rhyming words
✳️ Opposites
✳️ Upper and lowercase letters

You could even write random amounts of change (37¢, 81¢, etc.) and have 1st and 2nd graders count out the correct coins!

Today, on the blog, you can grab our plastic egg invitations to play freebie with even more ideas. Just click here: https://rollingprairiereaders.com/5-free-invitations-to-play-plastic-eggs/
